Celebrating Over 25 Years of Services
In 1981, a group of local family caregivers and healthcare professionals came together for the purpose of sharing insights, ideas and information and providing support that eventually would help other families in our community better cope with the effects of this debilitating and devastating disease.
From that alliance, Alzheimer's Services of Cape Cod & the Islands, Inc. was formed as an independent, community-based 501(c)(3) non-profit agency in 1984. In 1987, we became the Cape Cod Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. However, in order to better focus on and support the growing needs in our region, we returned to independent status in July 2002. Since then, Alzheimer's Services has been 100% locally funded and operated, serving exlusively those effected by Alzheimer's disease and other dementias on Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket.
For over 25 years, Alzheimer's Services has provided our area with supportive services and capacity building development programs for family and professional caregivers. We are proud to offer the following services:
- 3 types of respite grants: in-home care, adult day care, and in-facility overnight care
- The Connecting Point Dementia Care Centers
- A telephone helpline at 508-775-5656
- Referral services to local resources such as home health services, adult supportive day services, assisted living communities, elder law attorneys, and skilled nursing facilities.
- 2 annual conferences on cutting-edge dementia research and care techniques
- Free programs for family caregivers and community members such as: Overview of Alzheimer's Disease, Managing Challenging Behaviors, Essential Communication Skills, Maintaining Your Brain, and Unwrapping the Holidays
